Martha Argerich & Guy Braunstein in Recital

From the intimate Pierre Boulez Saal with piano icon Martha Argerich and acclaimed violinist Guy Braunstein, a program celebrating the great romantic duos for violin and piano. One of the greatest pianists of our generation, if not all time, Martha Argerich is a master of her instrument, with an ability to “spin gossamer threads of melody as matchless as ever”. In a varied career from soloist, chamber musician, conductor, to concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, Guy Braunstein brings the depth of his multi-faceted musicianship to the great Romantic violin sonatas. Opening the program, Schumann’s First Sonata for Violin is concise but bursting with emotion. At times equally as sustained and melodious but with Prokofiev’s signature capricious style, his Sonata No.2 is as humorous as it is lyrical. Rounding out the trio of sonatas is the Franck Sonata, one of his best-known compositions and a true masterpiece of the genre. A musical aperitif, the program is rounded out with two pieces by Kreisler FEATURING Martha Argerich, piano Guy Braunstein, violin PROGRAM SCHUMANN Sonata for Violin and Piano in A minor Op.105 PROKOFIEV Sonata for Violin and Piano in D Op.94a FRANCK Sonata for Violin and Piano KREISLER Liebesleid & Schön Rosmarin
