Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms
21:51
A man of multifarious gifts, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms is a serendipitous commission. Having struggled to find the time between composing, conducting, and his media personality, a commission for this work fortuitously arrived during a self-imposed composing break. Although a fragmentary setting of six Psalms, Bernstein recycled a number of fragments from his Broadway music at the request of the commissioner, the resulting music seamlessly interweaving the two elements together.
