One of the greatest operatic voices of our time, Renée Fleming, joins the inimitable Vienna Philharmonic under the baton of Christian Thielemann in a program that traces the breadth of Richard Strauss’ music. Opening with a selection of lieder, including from Strauss’ inimitable Four Songs, Fleming showcases the sensitive artistry which has made her famous; each song a ravishing, passionate, and emotional performance. Culminating in Strauss’ colossal Alpine Symphony, an episodic work tracing a perilous climb through the alps, Thielemann conducts a crystalline performance of this colourful and atmospheric music.
