Dale Barltrop Plays Schumann

Two of Australia’s most respected classical musicians join forces to bring to life the music of Schumann and Brahms. Once lost and discovered via séance, Schumann’s Violin Concerto was hailed by Yehudi Menuhin as a missing link between Beethoven and Brahms. Although Schumann’s wife initially withheld the release, this concerto is now a core part of the repertoire, and recognised for its warm, rich themes and harmonies. One of the first sets of variations for orchestra, Brahms’ work originally for two pianos comes to life with orchestral colour. With Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Dale Barltrop as soloist, and Sydney Symphony Orchestra Principal Cello Umberto Clerici on the podium, this concert celebrates Australia’s rich musical talents.
