Australian musical legend Paul Grabowsky AO is known for his incredible versatility and virtuosity. Paul is a long-time friend of the MSO, and Four Elements was the culmination of his time as MSO Composer in Residence. The World Premiere of this work is presented here. As Grabowsky explains, Four Elements is a concert overture whose “title refers to the four elements proposed by the pre-Socratic philosopher Empedocles as being the fundamental building blocks of the cosmos: air, water, fire and earth.” Reflecting Grabowsky’s close relationship with the MSO, Four Elements “is unashamedly a display piece for an orchestra I have had such a wonderful experience with.” True to form, MSO’s rendition, as acclaimed by ClassikON, “was remarkable for the stunning and dazzling solo playing of trumpeter Shane Hooten, tubist Timothy Buzbee and percussionist Shaun Trubiano.”
