Nicholas Carter conducts a program celebrating new voices and miraculous music. As with many of the soubriquets of Haydn’s symphonies, his Miracle symphony is not entirely accurate. Although the tale of a chandelier falling mid-concert and miraculously not injuring the audience is true, it was actually at another of the composers London premieres. Despite this inflated subtitle, this music still lives up to it; one of the finest examples of Haydn’s craft and wit. Anne Cawrse is an Australian composer on the rise, with a string of recent accolades and impactful premieres.
