Recorded at the MSO's Mid-Season Gala in their 2022 Season, this performance of Dvořák's ninth symphony with Chief Conductor Jaime Martín is full of passion, vigour, and enthusiasm. This Symphony is an ode to the “New World” written upon Dvorak’s arrival in America. He draws on music from his Czech roots and mixes these with the influences and new music he encountered in the US. In particular, Dvorak was fascinated by quintessentially American melodies that can now be found within the Symphony, like “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”. No matter if you’ve heard this symphony a million times, or if it’s your first time listening – the MSO are bound to keep you on the edge of your seats as Martín injects an energy and playfulness into this performance.
