Stravinsky's Petrushka (complete ballet score)

Recorded live at Hamer Hall, Jaime Martín is joined by the MSO and musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) to present an epic program of Stravinsky’s Ballets. Stravinsky’s Ballets, written between the years of 1910-1913, are a concise snapshot of his evolution as a groundbreaking composer, and the development of his quintessential style of music that have influenced so many contemporary composers. In the early stages of writing Petrushka, Stravinsky had a vision of a ‘puppet, suddenly endowed with life, exasperating the patience of the orchestra with diabolical cascades of arpeggi.’ The vivid and intricate score follows the story of the sad clown puppet Petrushka, who comes to life and tries to win the affections of a ballerina puppet.
