Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony was written while the chaotic Revolution unfolded in Prokofiev’s native Russia. The Symphony is an ingenious take on the Classical symphonies of Haydn and Mozart, combining the simple charm of the eighteenth century with the modernistic edge of the twentieth. Since its premiere, the Symphony’s popularity has proven as far-reaching as its historical scope. Prokofiev's score is brought to life by the 'illustrious' (Classic Melbourne) French conductor Chloé van Soeterstède.
