Jaime Martin conducts Tchaikovsky: Manfred Symphony

Byron’s Gothic tale of a tortured hero is the inspiration for Tchaikovsky's colourful Manfred Symphony. While not the first composer approached to write this piece, Tchaikovsky proved himself well-equipped for the task. On completing the work in 1885, he declared to his publisher that it contained some of his ‘very best symphonic material’. As his only programmatic work in more than one movement, Manfred is a unique part of Tchaikovsky’s output which highlights his gift for dramatic narrative. Jaime Martin and the MSO bring the fire in this performance from Hamer Hall in 2022.
