Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Finish off 2023 in festive spirit with Mendelssohn’s incidental music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream. From the sparkling Overture, written at the tender age of 17, to excerpts such as the iconic Wedding March, Mendelssohn’s take on Shakespeare’s comedy is a charming union of orchestra and chorus. Preceding the Mendelssohn is Shall We Dream? by Australian composer Michael Atherton, which sets the mood with its free-flowing chorus and imaginative choreography on the stage of Hamer Hall. Jaime Martín leads the MSO in a night of escapist fantasy alongside the MSO’s Ensemble in Residence, Gondwana Voices, and soloists Alexandra Oomens and Stephanie Dillon.
